Case study
How we made a custom salon booking app
How Sanofa Store Technologies LLC shipped a bulletproof, 3-app booking platform for a 5-location salon group in 6 weeks — now running 17,500+ real customers with zero critical bugs in production

The numbers, up front
17,500+ active customers served in production
5 salon locations running on one platform
6 weeks from kickoff to launch
0 critical bugs in production
3 connected apps (customer app, admin dashboard, backend) built as one system
These aren't projections or a demo. This is what's running today, every day, for a real business.
The problem: he was renting his own customers
Our client runs a group of 5 salons across Switzerland — multiple locations, dozens of staff, thousands of loyal customers. Like most multi-location businesses, he was doing it the way everyone tells you to: through a well-known third-party booking platform.
It worked, technically. But every month it cost him more, and the more his business grew, the more he paid for the privilege of it growing.
The real problem wasn't the invoice. It was who owned the relationship:
His customers weren't his. They belonged to the booking platform's app, the platform's marketing list, the platform's recommendations — his salons were just one listing among competitors, one tap away from losing the client to someone else.
The features stopped where the platform's roadmap stopped. He couldn't build loyalty mechanics, staff accountability tools, or marketing automation shaped around his business — he got what the platform decided to ship, for everyone, at the same time.
He was scaling someone else's product, not his own. Five locations in, the recurring fees and the lack of control were both compounding in the wrong direction.
He didn't want a cheaper booking tool. He wanted to own the system his business runs on.
The turning point
Instead of shopping for yet another subscription platform, he came to us with a different question: what if I just owned this outright?
That meant building three things that had to work as one:
A customer-facing mobile app his clients would actually enjoy booking through
An admin dashboard his managers and staff could run five salons from
A backend powerful enough to handle real payments, real scheduling conflicts, and real scale — without falling over
Most agencies would have quoted this as a 3-to-6-month build. We delivered it in 6 weeks.
What we built
BlackBeard is a fully custom, three-application ecosystem — a customer mobile app, a management dashboard, and a backend API — all reading and writing to one shared source of truth. No duct-taped plugins, no third-party booking widget bolted onto a website. One system, built end to end, owned entirely by the client.

Every feature, built to make the business more money — not just look impressive
1. A booking experience customers actually finish
Multi-step guided booking (salon → service → stylist → time slot), smart same-day availability, and Apple Pay / card checkout built in — all designed to reduce the drop-off that generic booking widgets create right before the "confirm" button.

2. One command center for five salons and every employee
A live, drag-and-drop calendar that spans every location and every staff member from a single dashboard. Managers see only the staff assigned to them; owners see everything. Walk-in pricing, staff availability, and scheduling conflicts are all handled automatically — not manually reconciled across five separate spreadsheets.

3. Loyalty and gamification that keep customers coming back — for free
Points, reward tiers, gift codes, and a genuinely fun scratch-card game mechanic give customers a reason to rebook directly instead of browsing a marketplace for the next available option. Automated re-engagement emails quietly watch each customer's usual visit rhythm and reach out the moment they're overdue — no manual marketing effort required.
4. Payments and identity verification, fully owned
Stripe payments run per-salon with each location's own settings and currency. Phone-based identity verification via SMS keeps bookings accountable without forcing customers through a clunky account-creation flow. Invoicing is automatic.
5. Staff accountability that doesn't rely on trust alone
Staff check in and out via QR code with geolocation, so time tracking reflects what actually happened at the salon — not what was self-reported at the end of the week. Managers get performance dashboards and AI-assisted insights to spot patterns a spreadsheet never would.
6. Speaks the customer's language — literally
Full French, English, and Spanish localization across the customer app, because a booking platform that only speaks one language leaves revenue on the table in a multilingual market.
7. Built to grow with the business, not against it
Every module above was built to scale from day one — five locations today, more tomorrow, without renegotiating a subscription tier or waiting on someone else's product roadmap.
How we build fast without breaking things
Six weeks isn't a shortcut — it's a process. Every module was built and validated independently, tested on a staging environment before ever touching production, with structural changes to the live database scheduled at night specifically to avoid any interruption to salons that were already using the system daily. That discipline isn't a promise we're making for the future — it's the same process this client's team watches us run today, every time we ship an update to their now-expanded platform.

The relationship didn't end at launch
The clearest proof a product works isn't what an agency claims — it's whether the client comes back and pays for more of it. After watching the platform run bulletproof in production, this client returned and commissioned a major second phase: ten additional modules covering deeper manager oversight, automated anomaly detection on staff actions, smart booking optimization for slow hours, customer database tooling, expanded AI features, and a fully mobile-responsive dashboard.
That's not a hypothetical roadmap. It's an active, paid engagement with a client who already knows exactly what we deliver.
